Cost of production and competitiveness of beef production in Canada, the US and the EU

The USA and Canada are major beef producers and exporters. Given the beef price differential to the EU, both countries have an interest to export beef to the EU.
|

Claus Deblitz and Kevin Dhuyvetter analysed the cost of production and competiveness of beef production in Canada, the US and the EU. The key findings of the report are: Weaner price differentials between the US and the EU are minor. The present situation in the beef finishing illustrates that there are substantial price and cost differences between US (and CA) farms and EU farms.

Development perspectives of beef finisher in selected regions in Germany
|

Benedikt Ewigmann, master student from the University of Goettingen, did his master thesis on development perspectives of beef finisher in selected regions in Germany.
|
|
He was able to confirm the structural change and pointed out that the availability and the prices for calves and land are burning issues for the farmers. His work was guided and financially supported by the agri benchmark Beef and Sheep Center in Braunschweig.

Benedikt Ewigmann, Masterstudent an der Universität in Göttingen, schrieb seine Masterarbeit zu dem Thema Entwicklungsperspektiven von Bullenmästern in ausgewählten Regionen Deutschlands. Er konnte den Strukturwandel in der deutschen Rindermast zum Teil bestätigen und zeigt auf, dass die Verfügbarkeit und Preise von Kälbern und Land problematisch für die Produzenten ist. Seine Arbeit wurde begleitet und finanziell unterstützt von dem agri benchmark Beef and Sheep Center in Braunschweig. |

Global Agenda of Sustainable Livestock – The Agenda
|
|
It is a partnership initiative of livestock sector stakeholders, committed to the sustainable development.
|
|
Its members represent public and private organizations, research institutions, as well as NGOS, and social movements. The main purpose is to catalyze the changes required for the coming decades in terms of the increasing demand for livestock products. The main actions are: joining forces to improve practice, building consensus towards sustainability and to promote a more efficient use of natural resources. The Agenda focuses on 3 areas: Closing the efficiency gap, Restoring value to grassland and Waste to worth. agri benchmark is part of the Agenda and is chairing the Focus Area 1.

FAO Investment days in Rome
|
On 17th and 18th of December the FAO Investment Days 2013 will be held in Rome. The event focuses on investments in food chains. agri benchmark presents findings from projects in the beef value chain of Indonesia and in the rice value chain in South East Asia, focusing on waste and losses along the value chains.
