Beef Conference 2010

The Beef Conference 2010 took place in Townsville (North Queensland) and Brisbane (capital of QLD), Australia. It was jointly organised by Industry and Investment (I&I), Primary Industries NSW, Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) as well as the agri benchmark Centre. MLA as well as the international shipping company Hamburg Süd sponsored important parts of the programme.

The Conference was again extended by one day and featured the following events: 

  • One day of method, model and website training.
  • A two day field trip to the Charters Towers region to get a taste of the Northern Queensland property size and extensive grazing systems, including an overnight stay on a cattle station.
  • 2.5 days internal workshop with presentations of countries, farms and comparisons, complemented by strategy workshops on the further development of the network. Further, the first results from the newly opened sheep branch of the network were presented, covering 5 countries.
  • A field trip to the Toowomba / Brisbane region with visits of an integrated export feedlot / abattoir and an extensive breeding (cow-calf) and grass-finishing property.
  • A public forum, hosting an audience of 90 decision makers and experts from agribusiness, research as well as cattle producers. Presentations by the agri benchmark partners covered the latest developments of the beef industry in different parts of the world. In a question and answer session, the audience discussed burning issues of the Australian beef supply chain with industry representatives.
