The Cash Crop Conference 2009 from June 6th to 13th took place in Wansford/UK and was jointly organised by the Cambridge University as well as the agri benchmark Centre Braunschweig. This year we welcomed 40 participants, partners from the network as well as sponsoring partners and external guest speaker.
The conference started with the country presentations from the Ukraine, Nebraska/USA and Italy.
The key results of the agri benchmark network – the 2008 farm data analysis – had been jointly discussed. The impact of the financial crisis on agriculture was an major issue: a presentation from a banker’s perspective led to a workshop session where the participants had a debate on financial aspects on typical farms. Still a very hot topic is “Economics and politics of biofuels”, which we had therefore dedicated a comprehensive session including an intensive discussion about the first steps and results of the GHG accounting.
For the first time a “Public Session” was introduced where representatives from agribusiness attended to explore the benefits of agri benchmark and possible collaborations with the network.
Last not least the participants learnt about the agriculture in the hosting country, theoretically by speeches on general issues, marketing strategies and agri environmental schemes and practically by visiting two leading edge farms.
